Review serial House of the Dragon episode 9

Synopsis episode 9 House of the Dragon

Behind the insistence of Otto and Alicent who want to make Aegon ascend the throne. Actually, this green family is not too compact to help each other. In fact Aegon never wanted to be king. He didn’t want to live by sitting on the throne all the time. It even crossed his mind to leave Kings Landing.

On the other hand, Alicent tries to convince Rhaenys to form a coalition with her family. According to Alicent, Rhaenys has no advantage in forming a coalition with Rhaenyra. As a Targaryen Rhaenys stands firm with his views. For him the honor of the family above all else.

Betrayal is created, Aegon officially takes the throne

As we know the end of the eighth episode leaves a deep sorrow for House Targaryen. King Viserys who had ruled for decades had finally passed away. Unfortunately, Viserys’ last words were misinterpreted by his wife Alicent who thought that Viserys gave advice so that his son Aegon would be his successor as king.

Aegon who already knew his father had died intends to leave Kings Landing. In his heart he did not want to be king. Aegon does not like to lead and wants to live freely. The disappearance of Aegon makes Alicent and Otto nervous, they send Cristone Cole and Sir Erryk to find Aegon.

On the other hand, Alicent tries to convince Rhaenys to form a coalition with her family. According to Alicent, Rhaenys has no advantage in forming a coalition with Rhaenyra. As a Targaryen Rhaenys stands firm with his views. For him the honor of the family above all else.

Starts beautifully, ends beautifully

The early minutes of this ninth episode are so beautifully made. Silence is depicted on a dark morning. Exactly where King Viserys had just passed away. The image displayed by director Clare Kilner is so captivating. Even when Alicent found out and told Otto about Viserys’ death, the image displayed was so dark.

Different beginning, different ending. Minutes before this episode ends. The audience will witness a scene that is so stunning and even unexpected. From the first episode to the ninth episode. It is only in this episode that Rhaenys’ character has such strong negotiating power to maintain the dignity of his family.

He bravely wore armor and appeared to be a true Targaryen. If only he wanted, the ninth episode could be the last episode of the series and no more seasons to come. This scene is the best ending scene for nine episodes House of the Dragon. Rhaenys also proves Haelena’s prophecy about the ‘monster under the table’.

Green family cohesiveness

If Aegon refuses to be king. Unlike the case with Aemond. Aegon’s younger brother actually has ambitions to ascend the throne. He felt himself far more worthy to rule than Aegon. His intelligence, his skill in fighting to his dignified temperament is enough to make Aemond superior to Aegon. Unfortunately he is not the eldest son and inherited the throne.

It’s different with Otto and Alicent who often have opposite opinions. Even though both of them are passionate about power. But Alicent tries to be wise in leading. He was reluctant to do anything to Rhaenyra, who in fact had the mandate to become queen after Viserys died.

Unlike Alicent, Otto is more authoritarian. Aegon’s leadership will never rest if Rhaenyra and her cronies are still alive. The only way for peace to be created is to eliminate the enemy. This lack of cohesion will be a dangerous gap for this green family coalition.

No “curse” but still promising

When it comes to serials Game of Thronesepisode nine is always a promising episode, or the cool term is an episode penultimate. There is always intrigue going on and it definitely brings crucial facts about the storyline. For example, important characters are killed like the late Ned Stark.

In the ninth episode of the series house of the dragons, The curse doesn’t hit important characters. Thankfully, the characters that were omitted were less important in the story. It’s just that his death is so very epic!

Even without a curse for the main character, this episode is still promising. In fact, this is the only episode that doesn’t feature Rhaenyra from beginning to end. This episode really is given entirely to the power hungry of the green family.

This episode still gives a memorable beat for the audience. As discussed in the previous paragraph. The end of the ninth episode is made that way badass.
