Box Office of the Week, Surprise from Deadpool

This week’s box office record really came in surprising ways, even surpassing everyone’s expectations.

The top of the box office is filled with films Deadpool, which only aired for 3 days. This film managed to make a profit of up to USD135 Millionthis is his highest gain in early July (beating Fifty Shades of Grey with revenues of USD85.1 Million last year). Deadpool is the biggest debut of an R-rated film, breaking the previous record of The Matrix Reloaded which only earned USD91.7 Million in 2003.

Deadpool really get a brilliant achievement, considering this film has an R rating and was not released in 3D format. This proves the popularity of Deadpool’s character and the efforts of the marketing team to get people to watch the film. During the holiday weekend, it is estimated that this film will earn more than USD150 Million, even fans can’t predict it.

Far in second position, there is Kung Fu Panda 3 which only made USD19.6 Million in the third weekend and managed to collect USD93.9 Million in America.

Followed by a new romantic comedy, How to be Single which grossed $18.7 Million in its first three days. Obviously this movie can’t compete with Deadpool, but it’s another option for those who aren’t interested in superhero movies.

While other recent films, Zoolander 2 can only fill the fourth position. Zoolander 2 grossed $15.6 Million in its opening weekend, just like the previous film released in 2001 ($15.5 Million). Zoolander does have a classic comedy theme, but there’s nothing interesting about the sequel. Another reason, maybe because Deadpool is more attractive to comedy fans.
