Shadows of the Tomb Raider Review: Enough Closing

Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, and Eidos Montreal very seriously designed Shadows of the Tomb Raider and spent a fee that when converted to Rupiah could reach trillions of Rupiah. Shadows of the Tomb Raider is the third installment in the latest Tomb Raider series, the prequel was released in 2013. In this series, we see Lara Croft’s appearance which is much more realistic than the previous series which looks very cartoony. The gameplay that is being carried is now also developed with new mechanisms which of course gives a more realistic and tense impression.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

The last series of this trilogy, initially was criticized by many parties. The reason is, the latest Tomb Raider trilogy is considered to have similarities with the game made by Naughty Dog, the Uncharted series. However, this was denied because from the start, the Tomb Raider series itself brought the story of a woman who traveled to ancient sites and faced an evil syndicate. The closing game for the latest Tomb Raider series was released in 2022 and got a pretty good response among gamers. This time, we will discuss this one game. Follow it to the end.

Plot of Shadows of the Tomb Raider

In the last game of this trilogy, Lara will face something bigger, namely stopping a secret organization called Trinity that is related to her father who uses artifacts from the past to reset the world. On her mission to stop Trinity, Lara anchors to mainland South America. However, in this mission, Lara also carried a grudge against the organization that caused her father’s death. Instead of running smoothly, this personal problem led to new problems. Being carried away by this personal problem, Lara becomes rash by drawing a sacred knife belonging to the ancient Junea civilization which is an artifact that Trinity is hunting for. Not only that, the knife actually has great power that is dangerous.

It was thanks to Lara’s carelessness that she triggered major natural disasters ranging from earthquakes to tsunamis. To solve the problem, Lara must find the knife box. This mission will not only save the lives of many people, but also the world. Even though the story line presented by the Tomb Raider series is fun to follow, there are some shortcomings that make it incomplete. The depth of character in this game only relies on Lara and the main antagonists (Dominguez and Jonah). As for the other characters, it still feels less profound. This is what makes the storyline of this game, there are still incomplete.

Better Graphics Than Rise of the Tomb Raider Series

Graphics are the most highlighted aspect of this game. Many overclockers or reviewers use this game to benchmark the products they review. You will find the details of the face and also every part of the body very realistic. Then, the environment, plants, and reflections that you see along the way of the game look absolutely amazing. Although it looks almost the same at first glance when compared to Rise of the Tomb Raider, the graphics of this Shadow series have improved. Of course throughout the game, you will be spoiled with the beauty presented by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal.

Shadows of the Tomb Raider – Gameplay with a Wide World Like Open-World

Of course, apart from the graphic aspect, the gameplay also has its own charm. Lara’s movements in this game feel much smoother than the two prequels. In addition, there is an interesting new feature in this game, namely the hub system which makes the world in Shadow of the Tomb Raider wider like an open-world game. Plus, this system makes the environment in this game feel more alive. In this game there is also an interactive NPS which makes it more lively.

Some of the NPCs also function as merchants that allow you to buy weapons and equipment. Not only buying items, you can also sell some of the resources that you get when adventuring. As a developer, Eidos Montreal also presents an interesting feature called “Voice-Over Immersion” which makes NPCs speak the local language which makes this game feel more immersive.

As the closing series of the latest Tomb Raider Trilogy series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is quite successful in providing an interesting dish for its fans. However, behind all the splendor presented by the graphics, this Shadow series still feels something is lacking, especially in terms of action that should be added again to add to the excitement of this game. Even so, this game is by no means worth missing out on.
