Marvel's Avengers - Should Have Been More

Marvel’s Avengers – Batman Arkham and Spider-man series released on PS4 has now become the benchmark for superhero-themed games. And for us, the standardization is quite high because the two series are able to provide game presentations that not only have cool graphics, but also fluid gameplay mechanics. Some time ago, Square Enix together with Crystal Dynamics worked on a game that took the theme of Marvel’s superheroes, namely Marvel’s Avengers.

Marvel's Avengers

What we see, this game seems to want to follow the Avengers movie which was aired some time ago so that the euphoria of the film can still be followed. In the beta version, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics also feature promising gameplay. Here you can use Marvel characters such as Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and others. Henceforth, we will review this game more fully in this Laptopnesia article. Follow this article to the end.

Storyline

If you are a Marvel fanboy and have a collection of Avengers comics, you will not find this story in comics or even in the MCU (Marvel Cinemated Universe). This is all because the story that is worked on in this game is originally made by Crystal Dynamics. The story of this Marvel superhero team-themed game begins when the members of the Avengers celebrate the birth of The Chimera which is their Helicarrier. The Chimera is given a power source called the Terrigen Crystal. However, unfortunately the birthday of The Chimera ended in a big disaster. The helicopter is surrounded by troops led by Taskmaster. The siege eventually ended in great devastation. Even more sad, Captain America as the leader of the Avengers became victims.

Marvel's Avengers

Not only taking casualties, the destruction of The Chimera produces a side effect that emits a Terrigen mist that makes humans turn into creatures called Inhumans who can do destructive things such as throwing fire and creating clones. The transformation of the human race into destructive creatures called the Inhumans cannot be prevented even by the Avengers themselves. Due to the vacancy of the position as protector of the city, a technology company called AIM led by George Tarleton created a very intelligent robot that is suspected to be able to save humanity from the Inhumans.

Marvel's Avengers

One of the victims of the mist produced by the Terrigen Crystals was Kamala Khan. He now has a strange power that makes him different from what he was before. Kamala is an Avengers fan and she finds a secret tape from AIM showing Captain America’s death. This makes Kamala hunted by the company. Because he has this strange power, Kamala plans to dismantle the evil plan that AIM wants to launch. And, this makes him want to return the superhero team called the Avengers back to how it was before.

Gameplay and Graphics

When we first saw the preview of this game, we were quite amazed by how it worked. However, we are a little bit skeptical about the execution. Junebe because the Batman Arkham series and also Spider-man PS4 have become the standard for good superhero-themed games. Especially during the early news of this game where Square Enix only displayed features related to microtransactions. Finally, we tried this game and got a feel for the mechanics that Crystal Dynamics worked on. As a result, we are quite satisfied with the mechanics of the gameplay.

Marvel's Avengers

Here we can play with a group of Marvel superheroes directly. A little reminiscent of the Marvel Ultimate Alliances game. However, of course the graphics and mechanics on display are quite different. At the beginning of the game you will play Kamala Khan who is a Miss Marvel. The advantage that this latest superhero game has is a large map that you can browse freely. Basically this game has thick RPG elements so you can upgrade your character’s stats and skills. Then, the actions shown in this game are very fluid and fun. The animation shown is quite lively and very fun to watch.

Marvel's Avengers

However, of course, this game has drawbacks that we think should be noticed because it is enough to make us unable to compare it with the Batman Arkham series or Spider-man, namely the repetitiveness of the gameplay. The wide map does not make this game more varied because the enemies presented are said to be the same. In addition, the boss fight is relatively small and there are still many bugs.

Conclusion

As a superhero-themed game, game one can actually be considered a good game. However, there are several things that make this game a lot of emptiness, especially the battles which are quite repetitive. The grinding mechanism here makes us quite bored, let alone playing for a long time. Plus the bugs are quite disturbing the game.
