Bombing at the Box Office, Cats Lose Nearly 1 Trillion

Cats is one of the worst films of the last decade. This Tom Hooper-directed film has very bad CGI. Since the release of the first trailer, many film watchers have been pessimistic about this film and finally it has been proven.

The Cats reportedly experienced extraordinary financial failure. This musical is projected to lose up to $70 million or equivalent to 950 billion rupiah. What are the details? Check it out below.

Cost Spent $186 Million

According to Deadline, the Cats are projected to lose at least $71 million to date. The cost of making this film alone cost $90 million and another $115 million was used to promote the film. By comparison, his stage musicals alone have grossed over $4 billion.

These losses could have been compounded by the initial projections on the film which earned $100 million, 40:60 domestically and internationally. However, to date the Cats still sit at $17 million at home and $38 million overseas.

Withdrawn from the Film Awards

Dafunda Movie is not really interested in this film, especially after seeing the messy trailer. Cats itself opened with negative reviews from audiences and critics.

This film even only got a score of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. During their opening weekend, they only raised $6.6 million.

Universal even recalled the Cats from some of the previously designated award shows. The film is still getting a Best Original Song Golden Globe nomination for the song Beautifull Ghosts.

In fact, this film relies heavily on musicals, but the poor performance shown by Cats makes this film disappear from the Oscars.
