How to Find and Catch Mew and Mewtwo in Pokemon Let's Go Eevee/Let's Go Pikachu
One of the attractions in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee is to complete your Pokedex. That means you have to catch all the Pokemon you find, including rare and legendary Pokemon.
Of these rare and legendary Pokemon, there are two that you can only find once throughout the game. They are Mew and Mewtwo.
In this article, we will teach you how to find and catch Mew and Mewtwo in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Let’s Go Eevee.
You can only get Mew when you have Poke Ball Plus which is a controller especially for this game.
Connect Poke Ball Plus as controller you. You can do this when you just start playing or in the Open Controller Settings. After the Poke Ball Plus is connected for the first time, you will get a message that there is a gift Pokemon in your Poke Ball plus.
To access these gifts, go to the game menu and select Communicate, Mystery Gifts, then Get with a Poke Ball Plus. Before proceeding with this step, make sure you have an internet connection.
Follow each step and wait a moment. After that you will get Mew which will complete your Pokedex and Pokemon collection.
You can find Mewtwo only after defeating Elite 4 and becoming Pokemon Champion. Even if you try to access where Mewtwo was before becoming a Pokemon Champion, an NPC will stop you.
After becoming a Pokemon Champion, you can find Mewtwo in the Cerulean Cave. This area is west of Cerulean City. To access it, head north over the bridge, and use the Sea Skim on the river next to it.
Follow the river until you find a cave. In this cave, you will find some high level Pokemon and some of them are only in this area (eg Lickitung).
In the opening area of Cerulean Cave, you will find many stairs going up. Either ladder will take you to the same area, so take your pick.
Once up, you will arrive at a large and empty area. Find the stairs down at the far left of this area. The stairs will take you to an isolated starting area with one staircase going down. Use the ladder to get to the area where Mewtwo is.
Follow the path in the area until you find an area of water that you can wade through. Use the Sea Skim, again follow the path, and you will find Mewtwo. Before starting to face and catch Mewtwo, make sure you save first.
Just like Snorlax, you have to defeat Mewtwo before you can catch it in five minutes. And boy he’s strong. You should be prepared and have a solid plan.
Mewtwo is a Psychic type Pokemon with level 70. It has a very high Special Attack. He also has speed which is not bad. Unless you’re using a faster Pokemon, it can attack first.
Mewtwo has Amnesia which increases Special Defense and makes it harder to kill. Not only that, he also has Recover, making the fight harder and longer. Then with his powerful attack, he can retaliate very easily.
Because he has a Psychic type, he is weak against Dark, Bugs, or Ghosts. Having a Pokemon and/or a strong attack of that type will be very helpful. But this is not the only way.
Alternatively, you can use Pokemon that carry Toxic and/or Pokemon with high speed and attack. In my personal files, I managed to beat Mewtwo using Toxic from the start, then took out Pikachu/Charizard to attack. In three minutes, damage of Toxic is already too high to be healed with Recover.
After defeating Mewtwo, you can only catch it. If you still have the Master Ball, you might want to use it now. Otherwise, you will have to prepare a lot of Ultra Balls.
