The Best Football Anime Apart from Tsubasa which is No less Exciting
Are you a soccer anime fan? If yes, then you are on the same frequency. Football is indeed one of the most popular sports that has the largest number of fans in the world. In fact, it is so popular that many stories in the football industry are made into anime with interesting and inspiring stories.
As you know, there are lots of soccer-themed anime circulating. Not even a few anime are lifted from true stories. Talking about the best soccer anime, of course, it can’t be separated from Captain Tsubasa who became the forerunner of the birth of soccer anime in Japan. So, is there any other soccer anime besides Captain Tsubasa that deserves to be the best anime? To find out the answer, let’s look at the following list of the best soccer anime.
Giant Killing
This anime is fairly unique and different from other soccer anime. Why? The reason is that if generally in soccer anime the main character is a soccer player or a child who aspires to become a professional player, then this anime series is not the case.
Instead of bringing up the inspirational story of football players, Giant Killing actually made the main character as the coach of the team. The uniqueness of the storyline is what makes Giant Killing one of the best soccer anime besides Captain Tsubasa.
The excitement of Giant Killing began when Tatsumi, who was none other than the main character, started his struggle to become the coach of a small and weak club called East Tokyo United (ETU) which almost fell to the brink of relegation. The message conveyed by this series is also quite interesting, namely that no matter how small a club, it still has a chance to be the best.
Inazuma Eleven

Inazuma Eleven is an anime based on the game with the same title. If you still remember, this anime was broadcast on Indonesian TV in 2010. Unfortunately, the appearance on Indonesian TV did not last long after the TV station stopped broadcasting for no apparent reason.
Even though this anime shows minimal acts of violence like other anime. The Inazuma Eleven series tells the story of an old club named Raimon which only has 7 members. 40 years ago Raimon was a big club with many achievements but now apart from the lack of team members, this club also doesn’t have its own pitch. Sad!
Long story short, Raimon is challenged to a match against the Teikoku club. When Raimon loses a match, the existence of the Raimon club must be abolished for good. Of course Mamoru Endou as the main character didn’t let that happen. What will it be like? please watch for yourself.
Shoot (Aoki Densetsu Shoot)

Tired of soccer anime with so-so stories? Try to watch the best anime on this one. Shoot (Aoki Densetsu Shoot) presents a different story than others. Shoot (Aoki Densetsu Shoot) is a youth soccer anime by Tsukasa Oshima which tells the story of the ups and downs of the struggles of three friends named Toshi, Kenji, and Kazuhiro in a soccer competition between high schools throughout Japan.
The three friends are members of a Kakegawa High School team. In contrast to captain Tsubasa, who often presents scenes with power beyond reason, Shoot (Aoki Densetsu Shoot) actually appears more realistic, especially in the kicks and moves used. Even though it was released decades ago, this anime is still very interesting to watch.
Whistle!
Another soccer anime besides Tsubasa which is quite popular among anime lovers is Whistle!. Comes with 39 episodes of Whistle, presenting the inspirational story of a boy named Sho Kazamatsuri who has big dreams of becoming a professional soccer player.
The story of Whistle becomes even more dramatic because as the central character, Sho Kazamatsuri is not supported by adequate physical and skill. Sho Kazamatsuri has a height below the ideal of a soccer player and his playing skills are also mediocre.
In order to achieve his goal, Sho Kazamatsuri put in all means, one of which was changing schools to practice improving his skills and becoming a core player in a club. Long story short, Sho Kazamatsuri met Tatsuya Mizuno who was willing to train him diligently to become the best player.
Off side
Like other popular soccer anime, offside has also aired on Indonesian tv and became an interesting spectacle in its time. Offside presents the story of a team’s long journey at a Japanese soccer school. In addition to telling the team’s journey, offside also discusses the story of the main character named Goro Kumagaya.
As the main character, Goro Kumagaya has a unique story. For example, he has to change positions from goalkeeper to striker, overall this anime is very worth watching because it presents a lot of moral messages.
Area no Kishi
There are many football-themed sports anime, but not many that combine tragedy and comedy. Area no Kishi is one anime that manages to combine the two. Area no Kishi is one of the best works of Hiroaki Igano besides Doraemon and Crayon Shinchan. Fortunately, Area no Kishi is not in the same boat as Crayon Shincan, which is banned in several countries, including Indonesia.
The plot that Hiroaki Igano brings into is not much different from other anime. Where in the initial episode until episode 25 the main character suffered many defeats in the match until finally he was able to repay the defeat sweetly. In short, if you are looking for a soccer anime to replace Captain Tsubasa with various funny and hilarious scenes, Area no Kishi can be the answer.
DAYS
You could say DAYS is one of the soccer anime that reflects a real picture of the reality of life in the world of soccer. Unlike Tsubasa, who is said to have had talent and soccer skills since birth, here you will not find that.
Instead, you will be shown a scene full of struggles from the main character named Tsukushi who has no soccer skills or can’t do anything until he finally finds skills that other players don’t have.
In this anime you also won’t find kicks with certain powers or moves beyond reason like those in the Captain Tsubasa anime. One thing that can be learned from the anime Days is that “Effort will never betray the results”. Keep it in mind!
fantasy
Manga Fantasista tells the story of a young man named Teppei Sakamoto who struggles to become a great player on his school football team. Together with their schoolmate, Keisuke Honda, the two are trying to pursue their dream of appearing in the 2022 World Cup in Brazil this summer. The matches presented in this anime are also quite realistic and don’t seem far-fetched. Therefore, Fantasista deserves to be the best soccer anime label.
Akakichi no Eleven
The story that is lifted in the anime entitled Akakichi no Eleven is also a requirement for the reality of everyday life. Where the bad nature that exists in humans actually plunges themselves. That’s what happened to Singo Tamai the main character. His selfish nature actually hinders his contribution to a team. Even though Singo Tamai is a player who has strong skills and physical abilities.
The person who coached the football club Akakichi no Irebun was also not an ordinary person but a former Japanese national team player who had won the Olympics in Mexico. Although it has been released since the 1970s, Akakichi no Eleven is still very interesting to watch in 2022.
Hungry Heart: Wild Striker
Have you ever felt what it’s like to live in your own shadow? Sad, angry and disappointed because they are always compared may have become a daily meal. That’s what happened to Kanou Kyosuke, the orange-haired man who was always compared to his brother, Kanou Seisuke who was a genius soccer player.
Although in reality Kanou Kyosuke is not a great player like his brother, but Kanou Kyosuke has a great fighting spirit. It was thanks to his struggles that he finally managed to become a player who never gave up on giving goals to the team he led. Even though it’s not the latest anime, this anime other than Tsubasa is still worth enjoying the story.
